Tall Women’s Fashion Tips and Tricks from Lisa Butcher of Long Tall Sally

Plus-size? There are more and more stores that carry styles just for you! Petite? You’re covered, too.

But if you happen to be tall, there just aren’t a lot of options — even though tall women have the money to spend on extra-long styles.

According to new research, women who are 5-foot-8 and taller are twice as likely to earn up to $7,650 more than their shorter pals, the Daily Mail reports.

British retailer Long Tall Sally, which specializes in clothes for women over 5-foot-8, is listening and hopes to make waves on this side of the pond by giving U.S.-based fashionistas the styles they’ve been searching for.

StyleList caught up with Lisa Butcher, a 6-foot-tall model (Yves Saint Laurent, Ralph Lauren) and British TV personality (”Britain’s Next Top Model,” “What Not to Wear”) who also designs the Long Tall Sally capsule collection Lisa Loves.

Here, she talks about the retailer, the need for taller fashions, and her tips for dressing when height is an issue.

On the Web site: “Long Tall Sally has been going in England for about 30 years, and it has been completely revamped,” Butcher says. “They have brought in a new stylist — her name is Deborah Wiles — and she has made the clothes very hip and much more trend-led, as well as being classic and beautifully cut.”

Madonna’s daughter designs an affordable juniors’ fashion line

madonna.andlourdes-719x1024

When Madonna needed inspiration for her latest fashion collection, she didn’t have to look far. The pop icon teamed up with her 13-year-old daughter Lourdes to create Material Girl, an affordable juniors’ clothing line that debuts at Macy’s this fall.

This is not Madonna’s first foray into designing. In 2007, she worked with H&M to create a limited edition collection, M by Madonna. This time around, her venture into fashion will be long-lasting: She has launched a new company called MG ICON which, in addition to producing the juniors’ line, will also put out other collections including eyewear.

The Material Girl collection includes jeans, shoes, fingerless gloves, necklaces and other accessories. Many of the pieces are inspired by Madonna and her daughter’s dance roots.
Madonna recently spoke about Material Girl, her relationship with Lourdes (nicknamed Lola) and her fashion risks and regrets.

Associated Press: Why did you want to do a juniors’ line?

Madonna: Lola has been bothering me for ages about designing clothes. Stella McCartney is a good friend of mine and she got her mind thinking when Lola was a little girl, about 8 years old. She started giving Lola fabrics and inviting her into her showroom and asking her opinion on things, giving her sketch books and stuff like that. Stella always pushed her. I have a lot of friends who are clothing designers, whether it is Gaultier or Dolce and Gabbana. (Lola) has been around all of the shoots I have done and all of the campaigns I have done. She is always hanging out backstage. The last two tours I have done, she has been working in the wardrobe department. On this last tour she dressed all of the dancers.

AP: What has Lola taught you about fashion?

Madonna: I am boring, basically. She reminds me of me when I was younger. She just goes for it and tries different things. It doesn’t look like she thought too much about it. That is how I used to be, but after years and years of everybody commenting on the way I look and dress and being photographed, one starts to become self-conscious and starts to plan things more. You end up judging yourself more, what looks good and what doesn’t. Read more…

Michael Jackson — The Eyes Have It

Michael Jackson’s eyes could be powerful evidence in favor of Dr. Conrad Murray.

0406_michael_eyes

TMZ broke the story — Dr. Murray’s lawyers will argue Jackson accidentally killed himself by self-injecting a lethal dose of Propofol into his bloodstream. As we reported, Dr. Murray says he left the bedroom for a short time, came back in and saw Michael with his eyes wide open and pupils dilated.

Medical experts who spoke with TMZ say if a patient is sleeping and dies of an overdose, their eyes most likely would not be open. The defense position — Jackson woke up when Murray was out of the room, became frustrated he couldn’t sleep, grabbed the Propofol bottle and “pushed it” — killing himself. Read more…

The Guide to Men’s fashion

ModelsDM3007_468x489

For years the men’s fashion has been sidelined especially in the designers and modeling areas. Many people or designers will certainly tell you that men’s fashion does not sell that much. Well, this is usually because many of these men find it difficult to concentrate on what they wear because of their busy schedules in the world. Well, we still have to consider the best on men’s wear or fashion trends. Remember that if you are a man you need to always wear clothes that are appealing and certainly make a statement on the world scene. Your clothes basically reflect or say a lot about your personality and attitude.

The first foremost thing that you need to do when going through the fashion trends is to make sure that you are ahead of others. In the world today how you dress determine the amount of respect that you will earn from people especially those that do not know you. So you need to ensure that you make a good and lasting impression wherever you are because of your clothing.

In men you will that the younger generation seems to careless of what they wear. Well, this is simply because they do not yet understand the importance of ones clothing in life. As you grow up as a man you will begin to note that there is attire for work and also for going outing or parting. As a man there are certain fashion rules or trends that you need to have at your finger tips. In every place or event there is a clothing code or trend that needs to be followed as a man and you need to make sure that you do not break the code or else you will lose your respect or become a misfit at the event or place.

Event selection attire
Blck tie event- If you are given an invitation and it states that it is a black tie event, it simpy mean that you need to wear something formal. Most wedding and professional semina require men to wear balck tie suits. The best way to make a statement at such an event is to wear an urbane tuxedo, white ribbed pleated shirt, a cummerbund, a silk bow tie styled and well polished black shoes. If you are one person that does not own a tuxedo you could go for the option of renting it from the men’s wear shops. Read more…

It’s a Bird! It’s a Plane! It’s Pink Tartan Fall/Winter 2010!

pink_tartan_fall_winter_2010

Drawing inspiration from the world of aviation, Kimberley Newport-Mimran’s Fall/Winter 2010 collection for Pink Tartan showed us how Amelia Earhart would dress if she lived in the present.  She wouldn’t just be flying in any old aviator cap.  No, hers would be covered in silver sequins.  And she wouldn’t rely on a chunky seatbelt harness to keep her strapped in.  Instead she would turn to delicate ribbon straps in vanilla and dove grey and wings of fluffy fur to keep her in place.  It’s details like these that take Pink Tartan from just a classic sportswear label to a classic sportswear label with serious chic appeal and there is little doubt that Kimberley’s Amelia is our kind of woman.

Our favorite pieces in general were those from the second half of the show – the soft greys and creamy ivories really spoke to us, especially the pearl-encrusted skater dress that closed the show (the roses were a very nice touch!).  We love that somebody finally showed a basic black cigarette pant – you can’t imagine how difficult they are to find. World Reocrds of Most Expensive Luxury Items 2010

Most expensive cocktail: 15,250 pounds a pop
The world’s most expensive cocktail contains a diamond ring instead of an olive! The drink, created by Harvey Nichols in Manchester, has to be escorted to diner’s tables flanked by security guards. The dazzle cocktail contains a six and a half carrot pink tourmaline and diamond ring set in 18-carrot white gold. The drink was the brainchild of senior bartender Jay Malik, 24, who was asked to devise a drink to fit with the restaurant’s Pink Dinners month. A special safe has been brought in for the bar to keep the rings in and customers can choose any ring they want from the range – the most expensive being a 27,000 pounds sterling two-carrot engagement ring.image001

Most expensive shoes: 1 million pounds

Would you feel like a princess or what when you wear something worth 1m pounds? The most expensive shoes in the world were on sale at Harrods in London. After a photo-call for the press, the shoes were locked away in a bullet-proof case where they will be guarded round-the-clock. The shoes, inspired by the ruby slippers from The Wizard of Oz, were woven from platinum thread and set with 642 rubies. They were designed by Stuart Weitzman.

Most expensive hair cut: 1,925 pounds

If you want London stylist Lee Stafford to cut your hair, make sure you are extra loaded. He calls it a “couture cut”. And the only place where you can get one is his house. Champagne, hors d’oeuvres and a follow-up trim as part of the package.

Most expensive denim jeans: Over $ 4,000

They wanted to be “the Mercedes-Benz, the Maybach of the denim industry”. And APO jeans have done just that with a pair costing as much as $ 4,000 or more. They offer mens and ladies jeans with Silver Buttons and Rivets at $1,000, 14k White or Yellow Gold Button and Rivets at $1,500, Platinum Button and Rivets at $3,250, and the Diamond Button and Rivets start at $4,000. All Jeans will come with Authenticity Number as well as an Appraisal Sheet from a top Jeweler in the NY diamond district. Of course, you could buy the economy version: they run only $1,000 a pair. APO jeans are constructed from denim woven in India that costs $40 a yard, compared with the $2- to $3-per-yard cost of materials for most designer denim. Buttons and rivets are made with precious metals or, if a customer is willing to shell out $4,000 or more, up to a dozen white diamonds on the main button.

Most expensive watch: $11 million

One of the most complicated watches ever made, it also became the most expensive watch ever sold when it was hammered down for $11 million at Sotheby’s.

The gold pocket watch features 24 complications, (Complications are mechanical functions of the watch other than the hours, minutes and seconds.)

Most expensive Mobile phone: 28,000 pounds

Peter Aloisson, who makes phones covered in gold and diamonds for affluent clients, is the man responsible for making the most expensive phone ever. It costs more than a BMW 3-series convertible, or a Jaguar S-Type. A Motorola covered in 1200 diamonds and featuring a keyboard soaked in 18-carat gold, the phone is priced at 28, 000 pound sterling. The new phone beat the previous record held by another Aloisson ‘Diamante’ phone – an identical model featuring a paltry 950 diamonds laid into the gold bodywork. That phone retailed for 23, 000 pound sterling. “The people who buy my phones don’t have to worry about security – they all have bodyguards,” he told UK tabloid The Sun. Read more…
